Certified Nurses Assistant Training

Overview of CNA training

Role of CNA in any health care industry is very important, as they provide critical assistance to registered nurses and also to patients admitted at a health care center or at their residence. They are also known as nurse’s aides, orderlies and also as patient care-technicians. Under a nurse’s supervision they provide a patient with basic health care. These days CNA training has become an important health care, education program with increase in demand of aides to the registered nurses. Every institute has its own set of duties chalked out for a CNA, but the basic work that defines the need of CNA is same.

Programs for CNA may be different in each state, but as said earlier, core operations will remain same. Works like checking for important signs of illness, assisting a medical professional with medical equipments, caring for patients with tasks like bathing, grooming, feeding if required, etc. are expected from a certified CNA. Providing emotional support to patients is also a job for CNA. Apart from these, a CNA is expected to know handling of patients with certain physical disabilities and therapeutic exercises to improve such a condition. First aid administering, collecting samples of stool or urine of patients etc also must be taught during training period.

When one has decided to become a CNA, there are scores of opportunities available. There are many programs that provide accredited training courses like campus training coupled with online courses. Campus education will give a person necessary exposure of medical emergencies in health care institutions, but this only is not sufficient for a person to get through a CNA certification exam. One has to read study material to gain necessary information that is a prerequisite to certification. There are online courses that provide needed material. Costs of these programs vary depending on affiliation of medical institutes and funding. There are also free training programs available either at hospitals or at nursing homes.
